Radiator heating

Radiator heating is most likely the easiest way of installing a heating system in an existing or a new building. Radiators have gone through very fast development and by now, even the most demanding client can find a design and a solution suitable for them. A lot has been talked about the unsuitability of radiator heating for combinations with low temperature sources of heating but that is certainly not the case.

When combining radiator heating with a low-temperature source of heating one has to analyse in a detailed way the measurements of radiators and the parameters of the heat carrier circulating in the system. A skilful plan or blueprint will yield a good and energy-saving result in the combination radiator heating - heat pump.

One has to be especially careful about the choice of material and dimensioning of pipes. The right choice of pipes and dimensioning plays an important role in lower energy consumption. The peculiarity of pipe junctions of different piping systems and their location in the construction is also important. Poor material in the system or a poor junction can damage the construction of the building and cause large-scale damages. Certainly it cannot be claimed that all piping systems and materials are equal and it isn’t particularly important where the water flows. When selecting the piping system, it is important to find out whether there is warranty and what the warranty conditions provided by the producer are. The best producers offer piping systems up to 10 years of warranty and at least 50 years of usage time. It is also important to observe in the piping system that the parts fit together and are from the selection of one producer or approved by that producer. Experience shows that the cheapest solution might not always be the cheapest.

The choice of radiators is not less important. Here the cheapest choice is not the most reasonable one. Different radiator producers invest in their products corresponding to where their radiators are used most frequently. The heat carrier and technical parameters used in Estonian heating systems are not suitable for every producer and type of radiators. We recommend using experienced brands and not experiment.

The advantage of a radiator system is the fast reaction time, which enables to change the interior climate of a room quickly, as needs arise. Newer thermostats are more sensitive and allow more precise and effective handling and energy use.

Requirements and recommendations for radiator heating

Requirements and recommendations for radiator heating

- It isn’t advisable to hide radiators behind furniture.

- Radiators should be cleaned of dust regularly since the dust will otherwise remain floating in the room air and when temperatures are higher, dust can start thermally decomposing on the surface of a radiator.

- Radiator heating is well suited for rooms that are periodically used, (e.g. hotel rooms) since reaction time is short.
